Course Description (for SIS)

The course CORPORATE FINANCE is about financial decisions made by corporations.

Corporations face two broad financial questions: What investments should the firm make? -Involves spending money; and How should the firm pay for those investments? -Involves raising money.

The goal of financial management is to answer these questions by increasing firm value.

This introductory course provides a general survey of finance and investments. It emphasizes an intuitive and rigorous understanding of the theory and practice of financial principles, illustrating the concepts through examples and cases. Topics covered include: present value analysis and discounting, investment analysis, and an introduction to financial markets.
