Course Description (for SIS)

This is the homepage for section 5 of the Math 2310: Calculus III course for Fall 2013.

The overall goal of the course is to introduce the student to multivariable calculus in two and three dimensions, with special focus in its geometric and physical interpretations.

The main topics are roughly as follows:

Vector algebra: dot and cross products.

Differentiation of multivariable functions: partial derivatives, chain rule, application to maximization/minimization problems.

Multivariable integrals: iterated integrals, Fubini's theorem, change of variable formula.

Integration on curves and surfaces: vector fields, conservative vector fields, the higher dimensional "fundamental theorems of Calculus": Green's Theorem, Stokes' Theorem, Divergence Theorem.
