The objective of this course is to develop broad knowledge of techniques to characterize selected structural, topographical, chemical and/or molecular attributes of solid (mainly hard) materials as well as in some cases “properties” of solids coupled with a fundamental understanding of the underlying factors that govern characterization capabilities and limitations in the context of physics, chemistry, and material science and engineering.
