Emphasis is given to collaborating and adapting instruction, assessment, and materials within inclusion and special education placements to support student achievement of the Virginia Standards of Learning.

  • This course aims to inform students of currently advocated instructional approaches and collaboration methods for teaching students with disabilities. Class content builds upon the knowledge and experiences from other courses and field placements. It is expected that information gained from these classes and other experiences will be incorporated into course discussions and activities.

  • At the completion of the course, each student will develop and modify curricula offerings for students with mild disabilities and will have gained competence in effective instructional procedures for working with students in inclusive and more restrictive settings. Emphasis will be given to explicit instruction and collaborating with colleagues and families to promote achievement. Instructional and collaborative competencies will be developed through simulations, group activities, lectures, readings, and individual assignments.
