Strange Journeys in Writing . . .

(Or, When Harry Met Alice, Judy, Bilbo, Laura, John, and Hà.) In this course we will investigate how writers present situations in which a protagonist faces a journey to a strange new place. How do the stories approach the task of showing characters engaging with a new culture and unfamiliar surroundings? How does a novel for children do this writing work, analyzed alongside, say, a newspaper article about students arriving at college, or the accounts we write ourselves?
