Class Syllabus Template
Course Description: Through instruction, practice, and peer and teacher feedback, course participants will enhance their public speaking skills with the objective of becoming more comfortable, confident speakers. We’ll learn to shape speaking in response to different situations and audiences, from job interviews to formal presentations. We’ll also practice techniques that help minimize anxiety and that maximize effective oral and physical communication. The course is well suited to all students, from the novice to the more experienced, and from the native speaker to the non-native speaker.
Learning Objectives: The big question we’ll pursue this summer is, “How can I feel confident and persuasive in front of a variety of audiences?” All of our activities spring from that question. By the end of the class, you will be able to--
- Identify your strengths and weaknesses in public speaking
- Use a variety of techniques to calm nerves and gain confidence when speaking
- Create messages that engage audiences and get key points across

20% Storytelling Presentation
25% Digital Technology Presentation
25% Persuasive Speech
10% Participation (including attendance)
