American Philosophy: Peirce to Rorty. In this course, we will seek to understand the continuities and discontinuities within the development of Pragmatism. We will begin with the writings of C. S. Peirce, William James, and John Dewey. Afterwards, we will think about the reaction to Pragmatism within mainstream twentieth century analytic philosophy by reading selected works of Carnap, Quine, Putnam, Davidson, Brandom, and Rorty.
