Course Description (for SIS)

Beginning at the Renaissance court of Henry VIII, this survey course examines the work of British painters, sculptors, and printmakers up to the twentieth century. In addition to questions of artistic agency, the course examines how religion, industrialization, empire, and globalization informed the development and reception of British art. There are no prerequisites for the course, and it is well suited for students in English literature and British History interested in tying their own studies together with the visual arts.
