Course Description (for SIS)

This class introduces students to working with relational databases, including query and design, with a focus on the use of databases in clinical and translational research. Key topics include the SQL queries, database schema structure and design, data modeling, the characteristics of biomedical research data, data privacy and security, and data warehousing. As part of the course, students work with a deidentified extract of the UVA Clinical Data Repository on a class server and are introduced to the UVA MuSIC research database application framework.
