Applications of Immunology

What are the mechanisms of some commonly employed medications, and what effect do these medications have on your immune system? How can you approach a medical situation, which requires you to make critical medical decisions? How can you negotiate concepts of medical ethics when making your medical decisions?

In this course, you will explore and attempt to work through these questions and more. First, we will explore some basic concepts of medical ethics to give you an ethical base to make your medical decisions. Next, you will undergo a quick review of basic mechanisms of the immune system to cement your foundations in immunology, so you can adequately apply those concepts. Then, through a combination of lectures and case studies, you will explore several applications of immunity including immunodeficiency diseases, intestinal/mucosal diseases, allergies, autoimmune diseases, transplantation, vaccinations, cancers, and prevention of immune responses.
