Course Description (for SIS)

 

This course will examine some of the most distinctive works of Russian literature from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.  Readings include great novels by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Mikhail Bulgakov; stories and a play by Anton Chekhov; and classic short works by Nikolai Gogol, Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, Isaac Babel and Anna Akhmatova.  No knowledge of Russian is required.  This course satisfies part of the College Humanities requirement.
