Course Description (for SIS)

This course reviews the fundamental principles of meteorology that form the basis of weather and climate prediction.  We will use this information to actively forecast mid-latitude weather conditions with a focus on the 1-7 day time frame.  We will review and apply concepts in thermodynamics, and atmospheric fluid dynamics; they are necessary to understand the nature of air masses, the development of fronts, the vertical motion necessary for precipitation to develop, and the linkages of these phenomena within the global environment.
