Course Description (for SIS)

This course emphasizes application of concepts and theories that provide a foundation for nursing practice in community health. The nursing process applied to families and communities is based on knowledge, skills and experience from nursing practice and from the practice and science of public health. Through focus on family and community oriented nursing practice, students expand their role from caring for an individual within a family unit to assessing and intervening to solve family and community health problems. The influence of political, socio-economic and ecological issues on the health of populations is examined. Students are assigned to clinical sections in selected community agencies.
