Course Description (for SIS)

This course is designed to provide graduate students with an overview of key processes and outcomes of adolescent development in the biological, cognitive, cultural, emotional, psychological, and social domains.  This will be done by examining theories of adolescent development and engaging in a critical evaluation and synthesis of research in the field.  Using a developmental systems approach, we will explore the mutually influential relations among the many levels of organization involved in development, with an emphasis on the links between individuals and contexts.  The significance of diversity in development and implications for social policy and educational initiatives will be emphasized throughout the course.
