This class introduces students to relational database design and management with a focus on the use of databases in clinical and translational research. Key topics include the structure of relational databases, SQL queries, requirements analysis and database design, the characteristics of biomedical research data, privacy and security, and data warehousing. As part of the course, students manage their own MySQL databases on a class server and develop working databases as group projects.
