Course Description (for SIS)

Learn to be a green designer! This course focuses on urban storm water management from a local context; using Virginia sites and cities as test cases for studying principles and techniques of green designtransforming water from a waste product to an urban resource. Learn how better water management can improve community health, safety, aesthetics, save money and restore natural elements by designing  a stormwater retrofit plan for selected sites. Students will use low impact development principles to redesign sites to meet ecological, aesthetic and regulatory needs. Stormwater management and urban stormwater design and retrofitting are highly desired job skills in today’s market for architects, builders, planners and landscape architects.
