Course Description

The products of Biochemical Engineering, sometimes also called Bioprocess Engineering, are all around you! You and your friends consume such products for protection, healing, or just plain old fun. In fact, you’re made of “biochemicals” and full of little biochemical reactors right now. So what is a biochemical process? What kind of molecules do we care about? How do we make them cheaply and safely? How could we improve the process of making beer, protein drugs, or small molecule fuels? Genetic engineering? Host selection? Growth process control? All of the above? In what kind of ways can we manipulate life? And should we?
