Course Description (for SIS)

This course serves as the second half of the quantitative methods sequence for graduate students in public policy. Building on the skills developed in PPOL 6150, the sequence aims to provide students with the empirical tools to conduct policy analysis, assess program effectiveness, and critically consume research findings. While this course assumes a solid foundation in descriptive and inferential statistics, including probability, estimation, and hypothesis testing, it is understood that there is considerable variety in prior exposure to statistics. Class materials will include links to resources to help students review and master the critical ideas of introductory probability and statistics that were covered in PPOL 6150. The main object of this class is to introduce students to econometric methods. Broad themes will include the interrelated topics of (1) regression, (2) causal inference, and (3) research design and analysis.
