Course Description (for SIS)

A Planning Applications Course (PLAC) simulates the types of work planners will encounter in practice. A problem-solving course that integrates practice, theory, and research, PLACs are similar to a studio for designers.  The class typically collaborates as a team to produce a professional report for citizens, public decision-makers, or a client. In this PLAC, students will be working closely with the Rivanna Conservation Society (RCS) on several related activities that provide insight into the workings of water advocacy, as well as nonprofit management.
