TEXTS
Most of the texts for this course are available online or will be available through Collab.
1. The first thing you’ll need is an edition of the works of Chaucer, starting with the class on February 2. If you already have any complete edition of Chaucer in the original, that will be fine; if not, I recommend The Riverside Chaucer, ed. Larry D. Benson. I shan't order copies of this because American bookstores can sell only the Houghton Mifflin hard cover edition, which is very expensive, but you can obtain the much cheaper UK paperback edition through online booksellers.
2. The following can be purchased from the UVA Bookstore:
Thomas Hoccleve, My Compleinte and Other Poems, ed. Roger Ellis (University of Exeter Press, 2001)
Edmund Spenser, The Shorter Poems, ed. Richard A. McCabe (Penguin, 1999)
3. TEAMS editions are available for free download from <http://d.lib.rochester.edu/teams/catalog>
The volumes needed are listed there in alphabetical order as follows:
Capgrave, The Life of Saint Katherine, ed. Karen A. Winstead*
Henryson, The Complete Works, ed. David J. Parkinson*
The Kingis Quair and Other Prison Poems, ed. Linne R. Mooney and Mary-Jo Arn
Lydgate, The Siege of Thebes, ed. Robert R. Edwards
Lydgate, Troy Book: Selections, ed. Robert R. Edwards
You can also order these editions in hard copy as paperbacks through the above website or (often more cheaply) from online booksellers; you might prefer the hard copies for their greater convenience and larger print. Because we shall be reading very substantial parts of the two volumes marked *, they will also be available for purchase from the UVA Bookstore.
4. The texts for April 21 will be available through Collab.
