This course will introduce the student into underlying theories and the practice of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Several of the classes will focus on understanding what the nature of AAC is, how it is similar to (and different from) other intervention techniques, how AAC works, how it is integrated in clinical and educational intervention, and how it can be applied in several settings. The course will balance theoretical background and analysis, hands-on experience, and introduction to clinical and educational application. During the course, the student will acquire understanding and skills to evaluate appropriateness of AAC intervention and outcome.
