Course Description (for SIS)

In STS 4600, we work toward two main goals: completing thesis portfolio and exploring engineering ethics in context. To achieve the first goal, we will primarily work on writing the STS Research paper. We will write, review, and revise multiple iterations of STS research paper. By finishing your STS Research paper early, you will have more time to complete other parts of thesis portfolio by the end of the semester. To achieve the second goal, we will focus on the ethical issues arising from technology use and engineering education and practice in general. Drawing on ideas and themes introduced in STS 4500 (technological determinism, social construction of technology, sociotechnical systems, politics of technology, envirotechnical approach, privacy, and security), we will further our understanding about the ethical and social aspects of your work. The thesis portfolio is due May 3rd. Exact time and process will be announced later.
