Course Description (for SIS)

Description

This course examines nutrition as it relates to optimizing physical performance in active individuals. Recent research publications will be used to provide the latest information on these areas and to encourage critical evaluation of research.

 

 

Learning Objectives

  1. To explore the relationship between food, nutrition, health, and performance.
  2. To understand energy systems and biochemistry associated with exercise.
  3. To know common nutritional ergogenic aids and discuss their efficacy.
  4. To assess nutritional intake and utilize evidence-based resources to guide eating for improved performance.
  5. To gain an understanding of the dietary challenges and health issues faced by athletes.
  6. To develop skills to critically analyze nutrition-related publications.
  7. To evaluate and discuss current literature in sports nutrition
