Course Description (for SIS)

This seminar is a three-credit class designed to support the YWLP group facilitators as leaders of YWLP mentoring groups. The content of instruction and discussion will focus on facilitation skills, small group development, and other topics relating to group dynamics, with particular attention to issues related to promoting leadership among adolescent girls and college women. This is the second semester of a two-semester series and therefore will address these topics at a more advanced level, aiming to meet the needs of the class participants. There is an emphasis placed on multicultural issues and contextual factors that influence YWLP mentoring groups and their members. This is a forum for YWLP facilitators to exchange ideas and utilize additional resources to optimize their facilitation experience and the leadership development of girls and women in YWLP.  The lab will be facilitating your mentoring group in weekly two-hour sessions at local middle schools and in other YWLP activities as well as the communication, gathering, and problem-solving required to foster a dynamic group.
