Course Description (for SIS)

GCNL 5150 is a required course in the CNL program. This course is designed to prepare students to use knowledge, skills, and appropriate technology to assess, plan and implement comprehensive care, including community assessment and program planning at the local, regional, national or international level.  This course emphasizes application of concepts, theories and competencies that are the foundation for population-focused nursing practice in a community setting.  Knowledge from the science of nursing and public health is utilized as a framework for the health promotion and disease prevention of individuals, families, aggregates, and communities. Students will examine political, socio-economic, cultural and environmental influences on community health. Students will have opportunities to engage in direct and/or indirect care to culturally diverse individuals, families, aggregates and communities.
