GERM 4600  Senior Seminar:  Goethe’s Faust    T Th 2:00-3:15   Martens

We will devote the entire semester to reading one work, commonly regarded as the greatest work of German literature:  Goethe’s Faust, Parts I and II.  We will read and interpret slowly and carefully, and a vocabulary aid will be made available.  Therefore, while this course is offered as “senior seminar,” it should be manageable for any motivated student who has taken GERM 3010 (the prerequisite). Two 5-page papers in German; short oral reports in German; midterm and final exam in English.
