The primary goal of ENGR 1620 is to introduce you to the fun and challenge of real world engineering practice through design experiences that address realistic, open-ended problems. As we work towards this goal, you'll
- add to your technological literacy
- improve important 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, systems thinking, and problem solving
- experience the technical and non-technical knowledge, skills, and abilities you will use in your professional practice of engineering
- have fun!
For the main design project, your team will create a prototype of an assistive technology device that will support work and/or home activities of a person with mental or physical challenges The project will also stress "design for X," where X refers to characteristics such as affordability, assembly, maintainability, quality, reliability, and sustainability.
There is no textbook to buy. Readings will be posted to Collab.
