Course Description (for SIS)

LASE 2559 enables 2nd and 3rd year U.Va. to think about their future at UVA and beyond and design their possible futures using design-thinking methodology.  Students will learn to connect the skills and competencies unique to a Liberal Arts education with the core proficiencies of prominent professions.  Students will apply this understanding as they begin to discover the possibilities of life after college.  They will take actionable steps to explore the career development process and their place in the world of work.  The class format includes short lectures, professor-facilitated workshops and visits from prominent faculty and alumni in the professional community, as well as exercises led by career counselors.  Class materials will be both print and multi-media.  Assignments may include writing a personal story, completing self-assessments, creating a resume, developing a LinkedIn profile, constructing a four-year plan, oral presentations, and attendance at multiple, outside, related events.
