Overview
This class is intended to provide an introduction to electromagnetism. We will cover:
- Electric Forces and Fields
- Circuits
- Magnetism
- Time-dependent fields
- Light (if time permits)

In LectureSlides->Introduction.pdf, you find additional information about the class
In LectureSlides->TableOfContents.pdf, you will find a list of topics, and links to the relevant textbook chapters. I am expecting you to read these before the corresponding lecture. If you have questions which were not answered in class, please ask.
Course Materials
We will follow the textbook of Giancoli, Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Vol. 2 with Mastering Physics. Vol. 2 contains chapter 21 to 35. The ISBN number of the textbook is 0-13-613924-8 (bundled with Mastering Physics access), or 0-13-227359-4 (just the textbook).

On Resources->MasteringPhysics->MasteringPhysics_Signup_Instructions.pdf, you find sign-up instructions for Mastering Physics. If you bought the textbook only, you need to buy an access code on www.masteringphysics.com for $66. The textbook bundle above includes the access code.
For those of you who have a subscription from a previous lecture: It might still be valid, one usually gets one year.

A list of additional literature will be found on collab, in Resources->Textbooks.pdf. These books will be held at the Brown Science and Engineering Library in Clark Hall.
Prerequisites
PHYS1620, or PHYS2310, or PHYS1425, or instructor permission.
Pre- or Corequisites
MATH2310, or instructor permission.
Grades
Your course grade will be computed in the following way:
Homework: 30% (the worst homework grade will be discarded before averaging)
Quizzes: 10% (the two worst results will be discarded before averaging)
Midterm exam: 15% each
Final exam 30%

The Honor Code applies to all assignments. I encourage you to discuss homework assignments or the papers with your colleagues, but the final product must be your own. On the homework, the explanation of how to get to a solution is part of the solution. It is a honor code violation to look up homework solutions from previous years.

Mastering Physics problems (Quizzes) have to be solved alone. You can use textbooks or notes, but no other sources. Grading rules for Mastering Physics Problems are explained in Resources->MasteringPhysics->Readme.txt
