ECE 6714 Spring 2015

1. Since ECE 6711 or equivalent is a prerequisite for ECE 6714, students are expected to be conversant with probability theory and to have some familiarity with theory and applications of random processes. The textbook is H. V. Poor's An Introduction to Signal Detection and Estimation. Second Edition, Springer.

2. Bayes, minimax, and Neyman-Pearson hyptothesis testing are treated in Ch. 2 of the text.  It will take us several weeks to cover them.

3. Selected sections of Vh. 3 will be covered, but more emphasis will be placed on Ch. 4 which treats estimation theory: topics include unbiased estimates, minimum variance unbiased estimates (Cramer-Rao theory), efficient estimation, and sufficient statistics.

4. Selected topics from Chs. 6 and 7 re signal detection and estimation in continuous time.  Applications to communications, radar, surveillance systems, and/or neuroscience.
