This course explores organizational ethics in healthcare, addressing both for-profit and nonprofit business models. The first part of the course will examine philosophical models for organizational ethics, as well as hospital missions and the broad issues that shape them (e.g. public health, uncompensated care, and social responsibility). The second part of the course will consider the ethical aspects of specific administrative issues, including marketing, finance, and human resources. Finally, we will discuss how to recognize and address ethical conflict in organizations, including both whistleblowing and strategies for internal resolution.
