Course Description (for SIS)

This course has the overall objective to bring together the areas of study in solid mechanics and engineering materials so that the students can develop the engineering skills necessary to analyze and synthesize the basic machine elements that make up mechanical systems. The major emphasis of this course is to strengthen analytical skills with emphasis directed toward machine design. This course assumes that the student has passed all of the required courses for the degree in mechanical engineering through the fifth semester.

Major topics introduced in this course are stress analysis, statistics used in mechanical analysis, static failure theories, and dynamic fatigue analysis, and design of specific machine elements.
