Course Description (for SIS)

This course will introduce students to a broad range of satellite remote sensing platforms, the multispectral data they generate, and the application of these data and derived data products to address global change issues in the environmental sciences. Examples are drawn from many disciplines (meteorology, ecology, oceanography, atmospheric chemistry, etc.). The course covers the basics of radiative transfer in the atmosphere.   In addition to the three credit lecture, students sign up for a one credit lab: a hands on introduction to remote sensing software, ENVI.
