Coverage of the design process including project management, teamwork, specifications, budgeting, conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases.  Technical report preparation and technical presentations.  Organization of design teams to work on small and larger design projects selected to illustrate the design process.

This is a two semester course.  The beginning of the first semester will consist of homework assignments and a mini design problem aimed at learning to apply specific engineering concepts and analyses in a design context. Teams will be formed, project planning, organization and design work related to the extended technical design project will also begin during the first semester. The associated lectures will explore a combination of analytic technical background and more general conceptual material central to the design process.

The second semester will be completely devoted to the extended technical design project.
