Brief Abstract, Bibliography, and Brief Biographical Statement

Biographical Statement

This should be written in the third person and should contain at minimum the following information (maximum 100 words):

  1. Current position, department, and institution. Example: Jane Smith is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Virginia.
  2. Highest degree held, field, and institution granting that degree. Example: She received her doctorate in Anthropology from Indiana University.
  3. Two or three publications. Example: Her recent publications include Tibetan Art (Jaca Books, 1999) and “The Vajravali Mandala of Shalu and Sakya: The Legacy of Buton (1290-1364),” Orientations (May, 2004).
  4. Current area of research or current research project. Example: Her current research interests include the history of religious lineages and their representations in paintings. or She is currently completing a translation and study of Ippolito Desideri’s Historical Notes on Tibet.

Example of a complete biographical statement:

Jane Smith is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Virginia. She received her doctorate in Anthropology from Indiana University. Her recent publications include Tibetan Art (Jaca Books, 1999) and “The Vajravali Mandala of Shalu and Sakya: The Legacy of Buton (1290-1364),” Orientations (May, 2004). Her research interests include the grazing patterns of sheep in western Tibet, and she is currently completing a translation and study of Ippolito Desideri’s Historical Notes on Tibet.

Complete Bibliography

Just as all print journals do, we require a full bibliography that includes all works cited in the article/essay as well as all other works you wish to include. Use The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, to standardize your use of punctuation and formatting for the bibliography (use the bibliography style; do not use the reference list style).
